SEXUAL ABUSE
•Making you do things you are uncomfortable with or don’t want to do
•Hurtful, sadistic sex
•Being unfaithful & passing on sexually transmitted diseases
•Making you feel guilty about not feeling in the mood for sex
•Deliberately withholding sex from you
•Rape and sex that causes you injuries
•Falsely accusing you of affairs
•Making you include other people in sex or making you have sex with other people
•Forcing you to watch pornography against your will or taking photographs against your will


ECONOMIC ABUSE
•Preventing you from getting or keeping a job
•Making you ask for money
•Not allowing you any money, or access, or information to household income
•Forcing you to sign for loans in your name
•Making you produce receipts
•Making you work and taking your wages
•Forcing you to commit fraud


EMOTIONAL ABUSE
•Putting you down, making you feel bad about yourself
•Calling you names
•Telling you or making you think you’re crazy
•Playing mind games
•Saying you cause the problems in the relationship
•Humiliating you
•Belittling you in front of friends or on your own
•Threatening suicide
•Making you feel guilty – about anything
•Making you feel sorry for them
•Making out the abuse is trivial and not taking it seriously
•Minimising the abuse i.e. “It was only a little shove”
•Actually saying it didn’t happen
•Saying it was your fault that he did it
•Saying you deserved it
•Saying he only does it because he loves you
•Blaming it on jealousy, saying he is worried you will go off with someone else


SOCIAL ABUSE & ISOLATION
•Controlling where you go and what you do
•Controlling who you see and talk to
•Preventing you from going out with friends
•Putting family and friends off coming to the house or seeing you
•Not allowing you money to go out
•Keeping you in the house
•Not allowing you a key
•Not allowing you to have the car


PHYSICAL ABUSE & INTIMIDATION
•Physical attacks on you (Kicking, punching, spitting, dragging by the hair, pushing, strangling etc.)
•Making threats to hurt you or kill you
•Making threats to hurt or kill your family or friends
•Making you afraid by looks, gestures or actions
•Making you drop charges against him
•Screaming in your face
•Brandishing or displaying weapons
•Destroying property
•Abusing family pets or threatening to do so
•Smashing up the house


USING AND ABUSING THE CHILDREN
•Accusing you of being a bad mother
•Threatening to report you to social services and have the children taken off you
•Threatening to abduct the children
•Telling lies to others about you abusing or treating the children badly
•Abusing you in front of the children
•Upsetting the children by the way he treats you
•Keeping secrets with the children
•Physically abusing the children
•Sexually abusing the children
•Emotionally and verbally abusing the children
•Neglecting the children or ignoring them
•Attempting to isolate the children from you either physically or emotionally
•Encouraging the children to abuse you verbally and emotionally or physically
•Rewarding the children for abusing you mentally or physically
•Using the children to relay messages
•Using visitation or contact with the children to harass you
•Turning the children against you or your family
