We support women, young people and children, from any background, who have experienced or are in fear of domestic violence. Clients are predominantly from the Wirral area, but no-one is turned away.

We operate completely anti-oppressive practices. No woman or child should be further abused by agencies set up to support them. All forms of discrimination are completely opposed and no worker who judges people will be employed or can remain as a volunteer.

These anti-oppressive practices extend to staff also. All volunteers and staff members are encouraged, enabled and supported to reach their goals. Those whose input is significant always benefit the most in terms of skill acquisition, increased confidence and a sense of belonging to something special.

All volunteers and staff do equal work and are treated equally, which is part of the reason for our success. However, those who wish to undertake other tasks, such as helping to facilitate workshops or programmes, are also encouraged.

We have many policies relating to our work. These include: Confidentiality, Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Health & safety, Counselling and Centre Procedures. Every person working at the Zero Centre must adhere strictly to all protocols. It’s not as onerous as it seems, everyone soon settles in and understands that policies protect us as well as those whom we support.

Volunteers and staff find the Zero Centre welcoming and supportive. It takes several months training and hands-on experience for volunteers to become equipped with the skills to do the job well.

The Centre’s whole ethos (with its volunteers, paid staff and clients) surrounds anti-oppressive practices and equal opportunity. We have a reputation for valuing our volunteers. All paid and unpaid staff are encouraged and supported to reach their goals, even if it means we loose them.

Clients are enabled, nurtured and valued as human beings with rights. We help women from all backgrounds to reduce the barriers to inclusion and higher quality of life. Our practices do not further abuse the abused in any way. We support girls and women regardless of race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, national origin, age or disability.
