The Zero Centre (Merseyside) opened in April 1999 as a drop-in service for abused women and children. By 2001 we had achieved charitable status and the Community Legal Service quality mark.

It became evident that drop-in support alone could not enable women to move on effectively. So we developed programmes which tackled root cause thinking, raising self-esteem, enabling women to self-empower and motivation for increased quality of life. The Zero Centre has a reputation for service quality, successful outcomes and the value it places on its paid staff and volunteer workers. The Centre supports 2,000 + women a year and approximately 440 children.

The services we provide include:
• One–to-One Support
• Outreach Support
• Legal Advice
• Specialist domestic violence counselling
• Support Groups
• Healing Programmes for Children
• Empowerment Programmes for Women
• Domestic Abuse Training for Agencies
• Consultancy

The centre relies on funding and charitable donations to survive. The development of this new social enterprise offering training and consultancy will allow the Centre to generate income and therefore continue to offer a free service to residents of Wirral, and a wider geographical area.

We provide drop-in support for women, young people and children who have experienced domestic violence.
Each client is given an individually tailored package of support, legal advice, information and advice, specialist domestic violence counselling, appropriate referral, one to one support, same day outreach support in the home or hospital, support groups, empowerment programmes, healing programmes for children and domestic violence training for agencies. Support continues for as long as necessary without creating dependence, and a focus on information, choice, enablement and valuing the individual.
